Gwibber should have a contact list to prevent the user from having to remember the often cryptic user names of their friends. The feature could be implemented as a suggestion box after entering an '@'. It could also be implemented as a list of all contacts in a new tab. The same could be done for groups that the user is subscribed to.

This would be a killer feature. I hope that developers can implement it soon

How about using the libraries from "folks project" (http://telepathy.freedesktop.org/wiki/Folks) to organize contacts with telepathy/empathy and evolution? That would make the implementation of an intelligent social semantic desktop much more intuitive.
