As much as possible, remove all 'popen' calls and replace them with apropriate direct library calls to the file system and Gnome. Optimize the callbacks and support code that might slow down the GUI from loading.

All code is attached and functioning from the original script. However, at the moment, we cannot use python-gconf as it raises errors when we try to access gconf as the "gdm" user. This appears to be a known issue in Orbit and is not something that we can resolve at this time. Solution: use the os.Popen calls for now, and move on.
The completion of the accessibility tab will be moved to the next full release after 1.0
