Make panel to drop shadow in gala
It's a feature proposal - there was lots of talking about modularity of pantheon. But for now, the only panel that drop shadow and looks decent with pantheon is wingpanel. If Gala had option to drop shadow, user could replace wingpanel with gnome-panel, mate-panel, unity-2d panel or any other panel - and it would look good.
I know that wingpanel has its own shadow, so shadow from Gala could be disabled by default, and only enabled when other panels are in use.

Well, what if you wanna create a panel with no shadow? I think it's better that every panel create their own shadow, so that they can do exactly what they want to, not rely on something else ;) --voluntatefaber
If you want panel without shadow, you can keep shadow in gala disaabled. But there still would be option to enable it. - J M
IMO it's not up to the WM to handle panel shadows, every panel should provide them, if they want to. --voluntatefaber
But none of them do that, only wingpanel as far as i know - JM
And that's because they don't want to, they don't wanna have a shadow. Why the WM should take their place and force something on them that they don't what? --voluntatefaber
I'm not talking about forcing anything - but about giving an option. - JM
