Plugins and manager should support some sort of verification system, possibly GPG signature based, so that users can be fairly sure that they are getting plugins that aren't intentionally harmful to their system.

We have opted to go with shipping plugins with exaile in lieu of downloading. If an update is required post-release, a minor version bump will be released with the needed update, and can then be distributed via the normal channels.
