Call to self checkout system to check out non-cataloged materials

During a migration recently a customer asked about whether self checkout systems (in their case an ITG system) could make a call to Evergreen to check out an item but not attach that item to the patron's account. Their ideal would be to use a generic bar code that could be checked out over and over again (and made available at the self checkout stations) to gather statistical information but not add the item to the patron's check out list. This would be the equivalent of the Evergreen non-cataloged types check out but made available during self checkout in some form. This is just a general request in case someone is interested in funding this work.
