elementaryOS need some "killer feature" to stand out from other OS
elementaryOS need some "killer feature" to stand out from other OS. Actually, elementary has a good philosophy (simple, beautiful, fast ...) but once you start the system, there is no a great/eye candy/ amazing feature/apps there is "just" very good apps.
That does not have to be a world premiere but rather something original and useful, I have no solution at the moment, I would just like to make the users / developers think with this idea

The killer features are consistency, performance, and looks. Jupiter got LOTS of positive feedback just because it was so fast when compared to stock Ubuntu.
I don't think that investing in a killer feature is a good idea because it will drain resources and harm the UX as a whole.

"Jupiter got LOTS of positive feedback just because it was so fast when compared to stock Ubuntu." I agree with you, but you can't say " WHaou I can launch midori in 1 seconds instead of 4 seconds on ubuntu,
"because it will drain resources and harm the UX as a whole" Ya, it's true, that's why I suggest a brainstorming for everyone, not just elementary's developer ;

Well, being open-source is a killer feature :) Seriously: we have lots of good things, and elementary compared to other OSes is different, distinguishable. It's fast, easy, stable and beautiful. Candidates for killer feature are:
- Set of elementary apps - native, good-looking and easy
- Pantheon
- Bling and eyecandy that we can possibly add (not necessarily against the HIG, just need to be well-thought)
- thing that you will invent :)
Marking this is obsolete. This isn't really a good blueprint and there is no suggested direction. Might as well make a blueprint called "Be awesome" and just say "Let's be awesome!" --DanRabbit
