I'm currently following a cool project on GitHub - IPFS. It is a distributed, versioned file system (and more). It offers a common protocol to share file among peers. The project is pretty mature and quite stable. We could implement the app-center upon this with (I think) minor modifications, so we don't need a central server; this may be useful to reduce costs and server workload. Updates, packages and so on could be shared and spread across the network this way
