Install pantheon DE on any distro

Registered by Alex Lourie

Pantheon packages should be created in a way that is distro independent.
Also, packaging for other distros should optionally be done as 'official' release.

Gentoo port work is already in good progress: https://github.com/pimvullers/elementary
Fedora has an issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/granite/+bug/1156975

Whiteboard

I do not think that Pantheon should "officially" be released for other distros, but building packages and making Pantheon more cross-distro is a great idea. To the OP, make sure to file bugs like bug 1156975 and link them to this blueprint. ~CameronNemo

Agreed on 'official' release. Having pantheon installing easily on other distros can be beneficial. ~Alex Lourie

People have built Pantheon for Arch (or atleast attempted) - see: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=152930 && https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/?O=0&K=Pantheon - Aporva Varshney AKA xyl0n
