We need something like PackageKit but for network connectivity. We want to be able to see if a device is connected to a network, if it's on the internet, if it's on the internet via a mobile data plan, etc. In this way we can provide more accurate error messaging or disable functionality that requires network connectivity, and we can also have our apps become more responsive when a device goes "back online".

I think Glib implements something like that now. I also have a similar thing on Maemo but not all apps use it there. ~shnatsel
