Whiteboard

Nobody uses PulseAudio and AirPlay is proprietary. https://blueprints.launchpad.net/elementaryos/+spec/upnp-server is much more viable. ~shnatsel

AFAIK, you can be an AirPlay server, just not an AirPlay listener. What kind of devices exist that support upnp? Also, in the future please file blueprints with human-readable names so that they show up in search. No normal person knows what upnp is. --DanRabbit

I'm sure Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nokia Series 60 and Maemo support it. I have no idea about all that "Smart TV" stuff tbh, but this already sounds like more than PA and some overpriced proprietary Apple thing, combined.
Yeah I suck at naming XD

Upnp support is a must but now there is an airplay open source alternative available. I quote from the site : "MagicPlay is an Open Source platform created by doubleTwist that establishes a universal way to stream music to wireless speakers, TVs, car audio systems and other connected devices, bringing music to the Internet of Things."
