Latest Mesa drivers by default
It would be nice to have the latest stable mesa drivers by default installed with elementary OS. It is a noticeable increase in performance and quality in gaming and whatnot - and it is required by steam, even though they recommend the proprietary drivers for nvidia and amd cards. But those are not working properly at least for now and, while the nVidia issue is isolated to LightDM, AMD is pretty much borked with all things libmutter. Might as well try to make the most of it.

Whiteboard
Steam recommends really unstable open-source drivers, which generated a lot of bad publicity for Ubuntu already. But even while using more stable snapshots too many people get GPU lockups or other severe bugs in the pursuit of +30% FPS.
We do not have the resources to perform representative regression testing when changing the GPU drivers stack, left alone act upon the regressions that arise, so we will not touch this in the forseable future. --shnatsel
