Slingshot Application Icon Display Control

Registered by cdntinpusher

For Elementary OS to truly be an elegant system, that is accessible to the broadest user base, one should be able to do this (hide application icons from Slingshot Launcher) without resorting to Terminal. For example, I installed the Ktouch typing program, which installed some other KDE elements (Nepomuk Backup and File Indexing Controller), which are non-functional on their own, but are now cluttering up Slingshot. I found references to modifying the .desktop file with No-install, as well as the use of alacarte, but neither of those options are user friendly, and most people wouldn't have a clue how to do it, and would result with Slingshot filling up with unwanted icons, reducing its utility and, frankly beauty.

As a newbie or timid Linux user, eg.. my parents, one should be able to right-click an unwanted icon for an app that is not wanted (but is required as a dependency for something else) and hide it.

Sorry, I am not a dev, so don't know how to fill the rest of this page out, with Spec URL etc, but this is where it was suggested to post feature requests in the Community FAQ. I apologize if it is not the right place.

Whiteboard

Marking as Obsolete. There is already a way to remove apps from Slingshot: uninstall them. If you install an app it will show. That is just how it goes. --DanRabbit
