In the applications menu (top left corner), add a calculator in the search field (If you put 5+5 it should tell you '10').
A "Search this on Google" should also be nice in the search results.

Search should be strictly for searching. -Adam Nagy
There are plans to implement a plug-in system for slingshot (the applications menu). These plug-ins will be able to provide different kinds of searching, but there will be no such things in default search. --julien-spautz
