"Add Launcher" right click option
"Congratz! Do you plan on adding an "Add Launcher" or "Add Link to Application" in the future? Some of us have some programs that come without .desktop's, like compiled programs or some that come with a compressed folders and work right out of the box, like Blender. It is, imho, a important feature that should be in every OS."
That is part of a comment from the journal entry of Beta 1 of Luna. I thought is an essential feature because we use some programs that haven't .desktop files, or just don't appear on Slingshot.
Maybe add the option to contractor?

I strongly agree on this blueprint. Perhaps it's just a matter of tying Alacarte (menu editor) and Contractor together, but this is a pretty essential scenario and needs to be easy and smooth. A lot of highly popular applications are not installable through aptitude and could really use this.
To me an intuitive interface would be to have an option in the dock just like you have "Pin to dock", you'd have an "Add to applications", "Add to menu" or "Add to launcher". I'd discourage "Add to Slingshot" because beginners won't be familiar with the terminilogy of the elementary package. This should then take the user through the process of gathering the proper information for the .desktop, which is pretty much what the "New item" function in Alacarte does pretty well.

Gonna mark this "obsolete". Menu editing should happen in a menu editor app like Alacarte --DanRabbit
