Give the games menu a better structure.

Registered by Tomas Gustavsson

After a while when you have installed a few games the games menu becomes very long. This would be fixed if the games were placed in submenus like Games>Action or Games>Simulation.

Whiteboard

The menus, at least for applications in the main repositories (because I understand that it is difficult to keep control for stuff on Universe), should be "sorted" by default.

For instance, the "Games" menu could be sorted into categories like "Arcade", "Strategy", "Cards/Patience". The "Internet" menu could be sorted into categories like "WWW", "E-Mail", "Instant Messaging"...

It would make the menus less cluttered and make it easier to the user to find the application he is looking for, sometimes he knows what he wants but doesn't know its name.

A spec "prototype" is available here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BetterMenuManagement

The menu system could display the menu differently based on the number of items. For example: if the number of menu items exceeds a defined number or exceeds the capacity of the display, then put the items into categories. Otherwise, display all items in one list. The usefulness of this feature extends to every part of the menu. For example: a user with many audio and video application installed would benefit from having seperate Audio and Video menus under the Audio/Video menu. -pax
