feature to start automaticaly a program

depending on type (tif, pdf ...) and on status (new, chaged ...) start a program with options (new_filename ...)
This is for example to sart automaticaly a viewer with the new file or to /re)load the new or changed file to a viewer.
This would be a very usefull feature
