Visible search criteria alongside map displays

Looking at the global solidarity economy map ( http://www.essglobal.info/mapping.html ), it's nice to have a "filter" that is exposed alongside the map and shows the list of selected fields as they are chosen and displayed. I think the essglobal one is a bit awkward, but the general idea is nice.
