What is DPI without installing it:

 Dash-Privacy-Interface (DPI) is a project that aims to protect users's privacy (here the data typed in the Unity's dash). It acts like a ballot screen(launch on any session's first login until a choice is done) / disclaimer that provide informations about the dash "all what you type is sent" "somewhere outside the machine so it might not be safe for the privacy". For example, there is 2 buttons (ON/OFF online search); link to the Canonical policies about the data sent; link to open the dash help ubuntu page (at the smartscope area); link to open the privacy panel from the system setting (switch on/off laters)...
