WorldForge Security

WorldForge uses plain text network communication, and only the most basic of authentication security. In order to support the necessary level of security it will be necessary to use much stronger technologies, but it is well outside the scope of the project to develop or implement these technologies from scratch. Technologies are required to ensure privacy and integrity of communication and a high standard of authentication both of users and of server systems. We expect the StartTLS and SASL will be extremely applicable technologies, and anyone considering this project should evaluate the way these technologies are used to enhance the security of XMPP. XMPP has much in common with WorldForge communication protocols.
