Values can contain variables

In configuration files, values can contain variables refering to other parameters in the file. In the case of sections, the namespace is limited to the section and the defaults values. Refering to values in the default is a mean to sharing information between sections.

The syntax for a variable is a '$' followed by the variable name. The variable name is a string of non whitespace characters.
