Enable deleting of an in-use volume type

As of today we can create a new Cinder volume without setting it's volume type, this means volumeType setting is optional.
If this is the case why can't we delete a volumeType even if it's being used by one or more volumes?
IMHO deleting a volumeType would just set volumeType fields to none on all the relevant volumes.
