Add support for space-efficient snapshots and snapshotting attached volumes

The API for creating snapshots is rather limited today. Many back-ends support either full-copy or space-efficient snapshots, and it would be good if users could decide. Further, there is a limitation on creating snapshots of attached volumes, which many back-ends do support.
