Create a Dynamic Filter List
The "View" pane offers filtering search results according to categories in the original Applications menu.
Instead of showing all application categories, application categories should be hidden behind a single entry such as "applications".
This will clean up the view filter list and leave enough space for an expanded "Places", i.e. extra items for "Documents", "Images", "Music", "Videos" and "Other files".
As Tracker's tags on files and folders (right-click in Nautilus) actually become searchable, tags will also deserve to be represented in Cardapio's "View" pane.

I am having a hard time with this blueprint. On the one hand, it certainly would be nice to clear up the categories on the left-side pane. But on the other (which, in my view, is much more important) doing so would change Cardapio from a "Gnome menu browser" into a different app altogether.
That is, I wish to keep "browsing the Gnome menu" as the primary use-case of Cardapio, in a way that is equally mouse- and keyboard-accessible [see the footnote below]. So I think it is very important for the default menus to be easily browsable, with as few clicks or mouse motions as possible.
So for now I am marking this blueprint as "Drafting" and "Deferred".
- footnote:
Of course, Cardapio does go beyond your usual Gnome menu app, with Tracker and Google searching abilities for example. But the main point is that the basic interface should be for menu browsing, while still being an open and inviting interface to quickly introduce our users to Cardapio's unique features.
