StopsDB currently weights 1.4 MB, is bundled with the app as an asset, and is manually generated and updated. There's an API used by the official GTT app to fetch that same data in JSON format, but it requires some sort of authentication: I doubt it's technologically or morally feasible to use it. Manually updating the database, committing it into version control and releasing a new version every time doesn't seem a viable idea, either.
