Bug Description

Package: xorg 1:7.1.1ubuntu6 in edgy
Hardware: ATI Radeon 9700 mobility (Samsung P35)

It happened 3-4 times untill now with no reliable reproduction yet.
Closing the laptop lid kicks in gnome-screensaver. After a while screen blanks and one have to press a key or move the mouse. screensaver asks to enter the password and the first key press causes the crash:
- no more xorg on screen
- automatic switching to empty console with blinking cursor in the upper left corner
- switching to other console by ctrl-alt-Fx not possible
- after some seconds gdm restarts and I have to login

xorg.log (attached later) points to a xorg crash.

I can reproduce it now very reliable by

1. run on ac power
2. close the laptop lid
3. pull out ac and run on battery
4. open the lid shortly after 3
5. crash xorg

once I saw a notification while in screensaver in the bottop right corner about some battery event for a very short time after 4.

Propably affected packages (and I don't know how to narrow them)
 - gnome-screensaver
 - gnome-power-manager
 - gnome notifications
 - xorg

I had an idea and did some more testing.

It's enough to run gdm (not logged in) and change the power source (ac<->dc) while lid is closed and open it afterwards. I even tried to run xorg with minimal xorg.conf with no accelaration, no power management and no loaded modules - same effect of crashing after opening the lid.
Is it xorg's fault?
