Bug Description

Inkscape version 0.47
OS X Leopard

When working with the Pattern Along Path feature, the current workflow is tedious when editing the pattern source. The pattern source is always dropped by default in the top left corner of the canvas. As I spend much of my time zoomed into specific areas of the canvas, anytime I want to edit the pattern source I must take the following steps:

1. Click the "Edit on-canvas" button.
2. Zoom all the way out.
3. Select the pattern source
4. Drag the pattern source onto or very near the area I'm working on
5. Zoom back in to the desired work area.
6. Edit the pattern source.

I'd like to have the ability to just click "Edit on-canvas" and have the pattern show up in the top left corner of my zoomed in workspace, instead of at the top left of the canvas. That little change could potentially save me hours of work. :)

I work on OS X, but I'm assuming this behavior is consistent across all operating systems.
