Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

When installing Xubuntu Jaunty 9.04 using daily "jaunty-alternate-i386.iso" images, if the selection used during partitioning is "Guided-use entire disk", the partition editor will create a new /swap partition and not see the existing /swap partition on any other disk. I had a /swap defined on sda7; partition editor never saw the partition.

I expect the existing /swap partition to be used any time I am installing (X)Ubuntu.

Release: Xubuntu 9.04 dated 12-23-2008

Yes, this has been the case for a long time, although curiously I can't find any previous bug reports on it. It's unfortunately rather difficult to fix with the current automatic partitioning recipe format, so I'm marking this as wishlist for the time being.

Changed in debian-installer:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Triaged

The same goes for EFI and BIOS Boot Partitions, and is basically the same issue. Raising to Medium as the underlying infrastructure (in the form of $reusemethod) now exists, so it may actually be vaguely possible to fix this soon.

This bug was fixed in the package partman-auto - 93ubuntu20

---------------
partman-auto (93ubuntu20) precise; urgency=low

  * Reuse existing swap partitions and EFI System Partitions, if any, rather
than creating new ones (LP: #311299).
  * Update Ubuntu-specific translations from Launchpad.

This truly does seem to be fixed which is just awesome. I'm only mentioning it because I got a couple of duplicate notifications so I wanted to give a heads up that it seems to be fixed.

BTW the fix effects both alternate and live images as far as I can see now. I'll check to see if there are any UUID problems soon, just be a bit patient.

It does seem to be fixed in Precise Beta2.
