Bug Description

Binary package hint: konqueror-kde4

The "apt:/" kio-slave is missing in konqueror-kde4. If I try to use it I receive an error message that the protocol is not supported. This kio-slave works with kde3's version of konqueror and is damned useful ;-) So please add this slave again.

Actually the APT kio slave isn't a official KDE slave, so the 3rd party maintainer would have to port it to KDE 4 first

If no-one else is working on this I'd be up for doing this, I'd be happy to do the port. I've done some hacking on KIOs before.

Ideally a new version should be URL compatiable with the Ubuntu Firefox extension for installing packages via URLs pointing to "apt:/xyz"

David, if you plan to make a port with this, you should consider make an apt:// url use kpackagekit/packagekit in the first place, since we're going to use it by default starting with jaunty, and adept is not maintained anymore.

Also, I'd be very happy to see the kio-apt ported (at least just the package installation stuff, since the all packages browsing is probably useless)...

I thought I should update this - this came up in KDE brainstorm, and now I have packagekit for Jaunty I remembered that I promised to do this, so finally got round to writing it.

See:
http://www.sharpley.org.uk/page/software/packagekio
or
http://forum.kde.org/kio-package-search-t-39550.html

This handles listing all packages installed via "package:/" and contents of a package with package:/packagename
 (i.e package:/amarok)

Calling it with apt:/ instead of package:/ is simply a case of changing the relevant line in the .desktop file.

It does not currently handle installing files ala the firefox "apt:/" I'm not sure how to do that without conflicting with listing installed files, without it getting very confusing for the user.

apturl (Firefox's apt handler) has a KDE4 port for Kubuntu 9.10 which works with KDE.
