Bug Description

On the language and text page, the first item is Display Language.
It shows on the left that label, and on the right the selected language.
This doesn't fit on the screen as can be seen on the attached screenshot.

Thanks, asking for design input. Matthew, what should we do in this situation? We could ellipsize the language rather than the label, would that be better?

I think there are several glitches here:

1. There is too much space between the icon and "Display". (Even more than between the icon and the edge of the screen!)

2. "English (United States)" would be both shorter, and less overbearing, as "English (US)".

3. Whenever a summary value does not fit in a page stack item, it should not be shown at all. I think that should be handled at the toolkit level, not by this particular item.

Thanks Matthew

So to summarize
- 1. and 3. are toolkit issues
- 2 is a comment about a particular cases, the issue is going to happen on other cases than "US" which can't be reworded the same way

not sure there is anything we can/should change from the settings side...

setting to incomplete, not sure what we can change here (out of the US special case, but that's not going to resolve the issue)

1 & 3 are actually the settings components as this is implemented as a StandardMenu component
Marking that as also affects

I will do a new wireframe for this, but the solution will be: Use a list item layout where the summary value is on a line by itself, below the label, rather than on the opposite side of the label. This should look okay because the "Display language" item is in a group by itself, not immediately preceded/followed by other items.

status: New → In Progress
no longer affects: ubuntu-settings-components (Ubuntu)

Specification updated: As I suggested above, for this item, the summary value should be below the label rather than to the right.
