Bug Description

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
Release: 14.04

2) apt-cache policy xfce4-settings
xfce4-settings:
  Installed: 4.11.0-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 4.11.0-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 4.11.0-1ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What is expected to happen in Xubuntu is one goes to Settings -> Power Manager and one may easily enable/disable hibernate via the GUI.

4) What happens instead is this is not an option.

WORKAROUND: one may enable hibernate via https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PowerManagement/Hibernate#Hibernate_Disabled_by_Default .

Why is this report targeting xfce4-settings and not xfce4-power-manager?

On top of that, the core issue is caused by policykit-desktop-privileges which provides system rules to disable hibernation on all Ubuntu systems by default. Instead of maintaining a downstream implementation for every possible desktop environment there should be a general "one-click" solution available to address this issue.

I suggest that you try to contact the Xubuntu team and discuss the matter in detail.

Thaddäus Tintenfisch, thanks for the response. As I've moved off Xubuntu due to it's limited support status (3 years, versus 5 years for standard image), I have hibernate in the GUI via gnome-session-fallback, and have the GNOME2 experience I've wanted since Unity came into being, I consider this closed.

Thank you for your understanding.
