Bug Description

Preferences dialog should be integrated into GNOME System Settings.

Original request:
Hi.

Since Diodon is really an awesome power application (that IMHO should be actually part of GNOME), one might think whether it should be more considered a "service", i.e. one where the user can select to have it automatically started (at session login) or not.

For that it would probably also make sense to transfer the current preferences dialog into the control panel.

Obviously, if you implement the ideas in bug #1235828 and #1235823 the user would have no GUI way of quitting Diodon (which fits this model of having it as a "service" quite well).... but people could still reach then preferences dialog via the control panel then,... and thus be able to get the system tray icon back and quit it in a clean way.
Additionally one should probably do the following: if a user runs diodon while it is already running and the system tray icon has been disabled then:
the system tray icon should show up again temporarily (i.e. it should vanish again, when one clicks somewhere als) with Quit and Preferences.

Cheers,
Chris.

Thanks for the feedback.

We are currently thinking about splitting Diodon into two parts a service (possible DBus) and a client application (tray notification, menu etc.). Different application can then also access the clipboard history through the service without being part of diodon itself (e.g. Gnome Extension etc.).

I also agree that the Preferences should be part of the Gnome System settings.

Those two things are somewhat two different issues though. I leave this issue open now and adjust it to integrating Diodon into the Control panel. I will however open another one for running Diodon as a service.

summary: - perhaps integrate it more into the GNOME control panel and have it run
- as a "service"
