Bug Description

After pressing my Print Screen button, screen turns white and stays white. I hear the "snapshot" sound, and my whole screen turns white as if from a flash. But it stays white and unusable. I can only recover by pressing Alt-F4, Escape, or killing gnome-screenshot.

This is due to how opacity handling has changed in GTK+ 3.7 (which I have from the desktop PPA).

IMHO, this flasing effect is very problematic. It's really slow in low-end machines and blocks work in other applications. This is an example of useless fanciness.

Those who really wants this feature for now can try pressing ENTER while the WHITE SCREEN FLASH is still on. I tried and once you press ENTER the WHITE FLASH disappears and you can see your screenshot in PICTURES folder

The same issue occasionally affects Ubuntu 14.04 (Unity). It seems that the effect is just really, really slow. Usually it simply delays taking the screenshot with about 10 seconds, but sometimes the white flash effect hangs completely.
