This needs a lot of work in libawn, possibly providing a special GtkBox which can switch from vertical to horizontal on-the-fly. Have a look at the notification area gnome panel applet, as this contains the same type of box.
I realize it would probably require rewriting too much code, but it would be really awesome if awn could be positioned in a corner with part of the dock vertical and part of it horizontal. I'm not sure how the GtkBoxes could handle this, nor how well it would interact with various effects like bouncing icons, but it would be really cool!
Would like to see better support for multiple monitors with this as well.
