Create a replacement for the GNOME Main Menu

Registered by eentonig

The AWN Main Menu implementation is awesome. However, in order to allow users to eliminate the gnome panels completely, it should be extended with the option to include a "AWN System menu".

Either as an entry in the current "AWN Main Menu", or as a separate applet.

Same could be said for the 'Places' menu structure. Although this could largely be replaced by the stack applet, it would still make a nice addition.
Same goes for a "Quit" applet, that calls the quit-dialog.

Usage case:

Susan likes to use Ubuntu, she is however not very fond of the default Gnome applets. so she installs awn. If she could easily install the same easy access to most panel functionalities, she could remove here gnome-panels completely and regain some precious Desktop space.

Whiteboard

Have written a new menu applet that contains a basic Gtk+ menu with the applications, system preferences, places menu, recent documents, a menu item to lock the screen, log out and shutdown. The applet does detect changes in the application menu and .gtk-bookmarks file.

Places submenu does not yet shows volumes, and mounts.

Places submenu can now shows volumes and mounts.
