transparent background and repositionable notification area

The background of the notification area (ie. behind the icons) should be transparent rather than a solid rectangle. It should also be modifiable to move up or down (like the icon offset setting for launchers) - some people like it in the middle, some (like me) would prefer the bottom of the icons to line up with the bottom of the launchers.
