WOL/XWIS is old, and the abandonment of WOL has shown how fragile an ecosystem is that relies on a service that only few (read: Westwood/EA and reverse engineers) can provide. This specification has the aim to establish support for an alternative to XWIS.

Yay for this. Beign able to create your own service which i not worse but better than XWIS and supports WDT would be awesome. The only few servers I know is the XWIS server and the prirate Russian Ra2.in server and they both do not support WDT. I hope when this gets into the game there will a an easy way to establish a server and may be even a servers list. And a check for a licence of the game would be good too. -Parasite03
