"Live CD" terminology and communicating persistence

We should design and implement a thorough and accurate way of explaining the effects of an Ubuntu CD or USB key, and conveying whether things you create and changes you make will be remembered. This design should include Ubuntu's Web site, CD cover, startup menu, desktop, and visible file system.

The term "live CD" is well-known to existing Linux users, but barely understandable to anyone else, and doesn't make sense for a USB key. The phrase "Test Drive" is much more familiar and suggests changes aren't permanent, but would be inaccurate for a USB key with space reserved for persistent data, for a CD with advanced boot options, and possibly for future features too:
